Have you got a great Wine List?

Whether you are thinking or revamping your wine list or starting a list from scratch, take a peak at this article in this week’s Big Hospitality. Written by John Grieveson of Enotria, it gives some great tips on how to write a wine list.

A restaurant’s wine list often doesn’t get the same level of attention as its menu, but as with the menu it must

  • Be simple and easy to read
  • Reflect the style of the restaurant

Plus it is important to

  • Describe each wine
  • What it tastes like
  • Make sure the wines are good value for money

Speak with your wine suppliers as they should be willing to help with your wine list… with layout, prices and descriptions.

I would love to hear from you if you have any tips on writing a great wine list.

Chocolate and Wine…a great combination

This week is National Chocolate Week, so i thought I should write something on chocolate.

Not only am I a big fan of chocolate, especially the very dark variety, but a wine enthusiast too. So I was delighted by this article in The Guardian today about which wine to drink with chocolate. The writer recommends matching wines which are fruity in taste (think cherries, raspberries and plums) with chocolate which makes lots of sense. I particularly like the idea of  a glass of japanese plum wine with my slab of dark Green & Blacks.

…and as a restaurateur, this article will definitely give you some fresh ideas for alternatives to dessert wines.
